Mrs. Elizabeth Kowatch of 755 North Jefferson street, 66, died Thursday, Sept. 
24, at 9:20 p.m. at the Ionia County Memorial hospital after being a patient 
there for nine days.  

She was born in Germany, June 17, 1887 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John 
Mahler.  She was married to John Schneider in Germany in 1903 and came to Ionia 
in 1918 and lived here the past 35 years.  Her husband died November 1927.  She 
was married to Steve Kowatch in 1940.  She was a member of the St. John’s 
Lutheran church and the Ladies Aid of the church.

She is survived by her husband, Steve; three sons, Pete Schneider of Saginaw, 
Frank of Elkton, and William of Bay City; one son, Herbert, died at the age of 
twelve and one son, John, was killed in action in World War II; three 
grandchildren; two brothers, John Mahler of Bay City and Karl in Germany; one 
sister, Katherine in Germany.

Funeral services will be from the St. John’s Lutheran church Monday Sept. 28 at 
2 p.m. with the Rev. Eric Cash officiating.  Burial will be at Highland Park 
cemetery.  The body will repose at the Boynton funeral home until Monday noon.
