April 28, 1976 JOHN KOYISH MUIR - John Koyish, 53, of 2514 O'Mara, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon while on duty at Michigan Training-unit in Ionia. Koyish died of an apparent cardiac arrest, according to Dan Bolden, administrative assistant at the training Unit. He had been a food service steward at the institution for two to three months, but had been a state employe for 26 years. The institution's doctor, Dr. John f. Tannheimer, rushed to the scene, but Koyish was reported dead by the time he arrived. Koyish was pronounced dead by county Medical examiner Dr. darrel Opicka at around 3 pm Tuesday. He was taken to Ionia Memorial hospital, then to Estep Funeral home in Muir. Koyish was married in 1953 to Esther Tafel, and is survived by his wife, his mother Anna, and three sons; Fred 29, of Lyons, John G. 21, Army in Germany, and Jim, 18, who lives at home. He is also survived by daughter Elma Schatilo, of Muir. Services will be at 1:30 pm, May 1, at St.John's Lutheran, with Reverend A.R. Gallert officiating. Family visiting hours are Thursday at 4 to 9 pm, at Estep funeral home, and all day Friday. The body will be transferred to the Ionia church at 12:30 pm Saturday. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
