Richard Krausz, 27, Dies Following Odd Accident At Sugar Factory LIFE CRUSHED FROM BODY BY BEET TRUCK Fatality Occurred Less Than Three Months After Wife Was Burned To Death. Less than three months from the time his wife lost her life from burns sustained when a kerosene can exploded in her hands while she was attempting to build a fire in the kitchen stove at her home on the Knox farm, near Collins, Richard Krausz met a violent death at the beet sugar factory at Lansing. The accident occurred Monday afternoon when he was crushed between a truck and platform at the sugar factory, where he had been employed for the past several weeks. He was rushed to St. Lawrence hospital where examination showed a fractured skull and internal injuries from which he died shortly before eight o'clock that evening. The accident occurred about three o'clock in the afternoon when a truck load of beets backed up to the receiving pit and after the load had been dumped the driver, Del Wolfe, of Williamston, believing the machine to be out of gear, cranked the engine. When the motor started the truck backed up, crushing Richard between the rear of the truck and platform, throwing his body into the pit on a spiked conveyor used for drawing the beets in the factory. Mr. Krausz was 27 years of age and was born on the farm north of Portland on the Collins road, where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eben Krausz, have resided for many years. Besides the parents two small children survive, Lawrence Evan, two and one-half years of age, and Gerald Richard, eight months old. Since the death of the mother last August the children have been with the grandparents, who will continue to care for them. Funeral services were held from the home and Congregational church this afternoon, with Rev. John H. Stewart officiating. Burial was made in Danby cemetery.
