By the tragic death of Mrs. Edward Kress, who died in Blodgett hospital Tuesday morning at 2:30, a young husband was left with a motherless baby not yet a week old and a mother was bereft of a second daughter, within a week. Mrs. Kress, sister of Miss Beatrice Bippley, who died last Thursday and was buried Sunday, was taken sick Sunday night with the same throat infection which complicated with erysipelas, had caused the death of Miss Bippley. Mrs Kress was not considered seriously ill until after the birth of her daughter, Marcia Marie, Wednesday morning. During that afternoon she suffered severe pain in her ear and seemed a little better at times Thursday, but on Friday a rapid rise in temperature coupled with other symptoms of a serious infection alarmed by family and she was taken to Blodgett hospital. Immediately upon her arrival at the institution, seven doctors were called in consultation and a definite diagnosis of the infection was not determined until late Monday afternoon when it was decided that she was suffering from the dreaded streptococcus. About 40 minutes before she died she lapsed into unconsciousness, but previous to that time she made a remarkable fight to overcome the malady. Mrs. Kress formerly was Miss Margery Bippley. She was born in Lake Odessa 25 years ago next July, but moved a few years ago to Ionia with her parents, where she completed her education, graduating from the Ionia high school in 1923 and from the county normal in 1924. She taught for one year in the Holcomb school. December 5, 1924; she was united in marriage to Edward Kress, who with the little daughter, Mrs. Kress mother, Mrs. Ella Bippley, and a brother, John Bippley, survive. She also leaves her aged grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Pickens. There were only two years difference in the ages of Mrs. Kress and her sister, Miss Bippley. They had spent many hours in pleasant companionship together, and both were received into the Methodist Episcopal church at the same service and both took the degrees of the Order of Eastern Star and those of the White Shrine at the same lodge meeting. Both were conscientious, Christian young woman who had made many friends and were greatly admired in the community. Both had taught in the Holcomb school and only words of commendation ever came from patrons of the district regarding their work in the school. Mrs. Kress died Tuesday morning without knowledge of the fact that her sister had preceded her in death. Mrs. Kress was also a member of the American Legion auxiliary. Immediate members of the family will gather at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kress, 522 Lafayette street, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock for the funeral services. Following those at the house, services for the public will be held at the Methodist Episcopal church at 2:30, conducted by Rev. W. F. Kendrick. Interment will be in Highland Park cemetery.
