Ed was born April 10, 1920 in Summit Hill, PA, a son of Raymond and Beulah (Beltz) Kuhns. He served in the army as a medic during World War II and the Korean Conflict (receiving the Bronze Star) and retired from T.R.W. in Portland. Ed was active in various organizations including a member of the Smokey Mountaineers (in the 30’s), being a charter member of the Mulliken Lions Club, Mulliken School Board, life member of the Portland V.F.W., delivered Meals-on-Wheels, was a ventriloquist and sang in church choirs in the Mulliken United Methodist Church, Grand Ledge Lutheran Church and the Portland First Congregational Church. He was also a history buff and was active in video documentation of Mulliken history and preserving Mulliken newspapers. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Margaret (McIntyre); daughters, Barbara (Rick) Bladt of Vicksburg and Kathryn Sanchez of Lansing; son, David Kuhns of Mulliken; 4 grandchildren, Caryn Bladt, Jeff (Cait) Bladt, Marco Sanchez and Diana Sanchez; and great-granddaughter, Josie Bladt; brother-in-law, Norbert McIntyre and longtime companion, Irene Faust, of Charlotte; several nieces and nephews. Services were held Wednesday at the Portland First Congregational Church with Pastor Marilyn Danielson officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Portland V.F.W. were conducted at Meadowbrook Cemetery, Mulliken. Memorial donations may be made to either the Portland or Mulliken Food Banks.
