Ionia Sentinel Standard, Jun 2000

Mr. Leon H. Kuhtz, 88, of Ionia, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2000, at
Heartland Health Care Center in Ionia.  Leon was born Aug. 5, 1911, in Ionia,
the son of Lewis and Cora (George) Kuhtz.  He attended Ionia High School and was
married on Oct. 2, 1942, in SS. Peter and Paul Church, Ionia, to Lorena Smith.  

Leon worked for General Tire in Ionia, retiring in 1973.  Mr. Kuhtz was a member
of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.  Leon served
his country in the U.S. Army during WW II.  He was an avid ball player and a
great third baseman and played in a no-hitter.  Leon also coached Little League
in Ionia for many years.

Mr. Kuhtz is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lorena; one son, Fred (Carol)
Kuhtz of Ionia; three daughters, Mary Lee (Dennis) McLaughlin of Minneapolis,
MN, Kathy (Jim) Campbell of White Plains, N.Y. and Carol (Tom) O’Connor of
Orleans; four grandchildren, Trenton and Matthew Kuhtz, Kevin and Tim O’Connor;
several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, four
brothers and one sister.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, July 3, 2000, at 11 a.m. from SS.
Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Melvin Fox presiding.  Interment will be
in Balcom Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7
until 8:30 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, Rich Street Chapel, Ionia, with a Rosary
service held at 7:30 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to SS. Peter and
Paul Educational Trust Fund or Ionia County Hospice.
