Kuieck, 79, of Ionia, passed away Friday, May 21, 2004, at his home. Mr. Kuieck was born in Grand Rapids to Elizabeth and Henry Kuieck. He was a 1943 graduate of Ionia High School, where he played football. He served with distinction and pride in the Army Air Corps during World War II flying B26 missions over Germany. He was a past Master of the Masons, past President of the Ionia Jaycees, and vice president of the Michigan Jaycees. He also served as past president of SERA (State Employees Retirement Association). He owned Barnes and Kuicek with his father-in-law, Fred Barnes, for 10 years. He was employed at Brown Corp. for 10 years. He retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections in 1989 after 19 years of service. He spent his retirement years following his grandchildren’s sports and school activities. He was an avid reader and loved to travel. He also enjoyed playing cards. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Gwen; children, David Kuieck of Boston, Mass., Debra (Philip) Betz of Grand Rapids, Diane (Kevin) Grummet of Ionia, Denise (Kernie) Wireman of Ionia, Darren (Angie) Kuieck of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Heather (Jef), Jim, Jenna (Ryan), Krynne, Kyle, Tiana, Kayla, Holly, Lindsey, Deanna, Ashley, Garret, Shayna; and great-grandson Joe. Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of his life 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church of Ionia with Rev. Marty Culver officiating. Visitation has already taken place at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. Memorials may be made to Ionia Area Hospice, Hall Fowler Memorial Library or First United Methodist Church.
