Ionia Sentinel, 15 Feb 1972

Smith Kyser, 69, a native and former resident of Saranac, died Monday morning 
in Lapeer county general hospital where he had been a patient for more than two 
weeks.

Born December 8, 1902, in Saranac, he was a son of Charles and Lida Youngs 
Kyser and attended Oak Grove school until his parents moved to Lowell where he 
attended high school.

Once employed as a salesman of small tools he later became part owner of 
Aircraft Specialties Corp. in Philadelphia, but moved the firm to Lapeer in 
1931, where he remained until 1936 before moving to Ionia to accept employment 
at Ionia reformatory.

In 1951 he and his wife Lois left Ionia and relocated southwest of Saranac 
where they became engaged in a poultry-broiler operation for approximately 12 
years.   However, he returned to Lapeer in 1963, where he was employed as an 
engineer until his death in the firm he had once been part owner.  He and his 
wife, the former Lois Morill, were married in Saranac, August 16, 1923.

Surviving beside his wife are one daughter, Mrs. Gayle Leslie of Ionia; two 
brothers, Carl and Ralph of Lowell; one sister, Mrs. Mabel Bovee also of 
Lowell; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services will be at Leddick funeral home in Ionia at 1 p.m. February 17, the 
Rev. Charles Fullmer of First United Methodist church officiating.  Friends of 
the family may call at the funeral home between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. 
and 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.  Burial will be in Saranac cemetery.
