Ardene was born September 19, 1924 to Bernard and Bernice Scheidt. After graduating from Lake Odessa High School, she married Jack Hilley. they had two children, Michael and Sharon. In 1950 she married Vance Lackey and they had 59 years together until Vance passed on October 2, 2009. They had three children together Gail, Jeff and Steven. Ardene is survived by sons, Michael(Carolyn)Hilley, Jeff (Vicki) Lackey, Steven (Sally) Lackey; daughter, Sharon VanAlstine, Gail (Ray) Brandt and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The Scheidt's were a large family. Ardene was sixth of 11 children. She was preceded in death by Donna Besko, Marvel Bessmer, Barbara Bush, Marion McVay, Phyllis Lackey, Richard Scheidt, Grethen Farrell and Donald Scheidt. Brother Roger Scheidt and sister Peggy Rider survive. Ardene was always busy. Along with caring for her family, she worked at Bradens Drug Store for many years then at Sible's meats.The 10 years before she retired, she worked at Lakewood High School in food service. After retiring, she and Vance did a lot of traveling and were proud to have collected souvenir spoons from all 50 states. In her spare time she was on a bowling team, sang in the choir and a member of the First Congregational Church. She loved reading, doing jig-saw puzzles, crocheting and knitting. She made hundreds of dishcloths for gifts and donating. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and a volunteer at the Lake Odessa Library for many years. Her hearing impairment slowed down her socializing but she kept up a card ministry, sending to family and friends for all occasions. Ardene was a woman of very strong faith.She read her bible, prayed and watched her Christian TV shows everyday. She said she had lived a good, full life and was ready to go be with her Lord in Heaven. Visitation will be held at Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa on May 22, 2022 at 1 p.m. with a memorial celebration of her life starting at 2 p.m. with Pastor John Waite officiating. The family extends their sincere gratitude to her devoted care givers for the last 12 years.Vicki Benham and dawn Ingall, to green Acres, Ionia and Kindred Hospice for their loving care to Ardene.
