Dale R. Lafler, age 69, of Ionia, passed away at Spectrum Health Blodgett 
Campus on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004.  He was born June 29, 1935 in Ionia the son of 
Oscar and Vera (Miller) Lafler.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, looking for morel mushrooms, lawn care and 
gardening.  Dale retired as a corrections officer from Michigan Reformatory in 
1994.

He was preceded in death by: his wife Sharon Lafler in 1985; four brothers, 
Walter, Richard, Donald and Wayne; niece Brenda Hewartson and nephew Brian 
Lafler.

He is survived by his sister Lucena (Tom) Luther of Roscommon; two sons Doug 
Lafler of Coldwater, and John Lafler of Ionia; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Melvin Fox, Pastor of SS. Peter and 
Paul Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Friday, at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 
220 Rich Street, Ionia.  Interment will take place at Balcom Cemetery, Ionia.  
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 
p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be 
made to the charity of one’s choice, in memory of Mr. Dale R. Lafler.
