IVAN HERSEL): Per IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, Thursday, February 6, 1997, page 2: "Maxine Ione Lake - Ionia - Maxine Ione Lake, 78, of Lake City, died Feb. 4 1997 at Autumnwood of McBain. She was born Maxine I. Smith on Oct. 4, 1918, the daughter of Verne and Lillian (Zimmerman) Smith. She graduated from Ionia High School in 1937. She married Hersel Lake April 23, 1938 in Ionia. She worked as a nurses aide for 19 1/2 years and after that she worked for Essex's Electric in Boyne City for 13 years. She retired in 1983. The past few years she and her husband have lived in the Lake City area. She loved to travel, knit and crochet. She was a follower of the Schuller's Crystal Cathedral TV Ministry. She is survived by her husband, Hersel Lake of Lake City; children, LaVonne Ione (William) Bennett of Ionia, Thomas Daniel (Roberta) Lake of Ionia, Ivan Herbert Lake of Delton, and Louis Milton (Allison) Lake of Wayland; nine grandchildren (and 3 Greatgrandchildren per Dad's obituary); sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Celestine (Stanley) Abbot(t) of Grand Rapids, Leo Lake of Kalamazoo, L.G. (Helen) Lake of Saranac, Morrison (Virginia) Lake of Saranac, Emmaline Smith of Orleans and Eleanor Smith of Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Jerry Smith, Alden Smith, Asaph Smith and Wayne Smith. Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 10, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia with Rev. Kendall Harger officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements were made by the Burkholder Funeral Home in McBain. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's research."
