LAKE, 82 - BELDING - Ralph V. Lake, 82, of Belding, passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 1, 2006, at Spectrum Health United Memorial Campus Long Term Care Unit, Greenville. Ralph was born Feb. 9, 1924, in Belding, the son of Rance and Eunice Walters Lake. Ralph was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. He started flying at the age of 16 at the Greenville Airport and later earned his commercial pilot license and his instructor license. For many years he was a sewing machine mechanic for Jolly Kids, Gill, Royal Down and Cutler. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He was married Dec. 31, 1944, in Pratt, Kan., to Norma Utt. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Minnie McCabe, Margaret Knapp; and brother, William Lake. He is survived by his wife, Norma; their children, Scott and Lacey Lake of Belding, Janice and Dave Pickens of Flint; grandchildren Jenny, Thomas, Brandon, Lisa, Matthew, Andrew, Emily; great-grandchildren Tom Veenstra, Thomas Lake, Jr., Pippa Wood, Gracie Pickens, Madalyn Wood; and brother and sister, Clarence and Betty Lake of Greenville, Anna and Don Ring of Ionia. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at Johnson-Feurstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Ken Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Shiloh Church, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion or the Belding Museum.
