Foster Charles Lake Jr., 70, of Ionia died April 28, 1998 in Grand Rapids.  He 
was born December 14, 1927 in Muir, the son of Foster C. and Viola Mae 
(Sprague) Lake Sr.  

He served two terms in the United States Navy.  He married Elaine (Lynn) 
McCarthy May 29, 1964 in Saranac.  She survives him in Ionia.  He was retired 
from Brown Corporation and was later self employed.  He will be sadly missed 
by family and friends.  He was a most loving husband, father, grandfather, and 
friend.

He is survived by his mother-in-law, Jeanette Howard of Clark Lake; sons, 
Stephen Foster Lake of Sheridan, Philip Charles Lake of Ionia; brothers, Lloyd 
and Elaine Lake of Stanton, Melvin and Betty Lake of Lansing; sisters, Irene 
Ferguson of Sunfield and Jeanette and Dean Bellanger of St. Johns; 
grandchildren, Stephen Foster Lake Jr., Stacy Lynn Lake, Justin Charles Lake, 
Josie Jean Lake, and Charli Lynn Nichole Lake; and dear friend, Cecil 
Krycinski.

He was preceded in death by three children, Nichole Ann Maria, Roxanne Marie 
and William Foster; brothers and sisters, Pauline Pennington, John B. Lake, 
Austin K. Lake; and his parents Viola Mae and Foster C. Lake.

Funeral services for Mr. Lake will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the North 
Plains Church with Rev. Robert Jourdan officiating.  Interment will be at 
North Plains Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 
from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.  In lieu of 
flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Davenport College Nicole Ann 
Maria Lake Memorial Scholarship fund.
