Ionia County News, 2 May 1940

George E. Lake, 78, produce dealer here for the past 15 years, passed away
Friday, April 26, at the home of Mrs. Wm. Borden, who was caring for him in his
last illness.  He had not been well during the winter and the past two weeks
failed rapidly and was taken to the Borden home Monday for care.

Mr. Lake was very active and spent much time and energy in building up his
business until the past few months when his health began to fail.

He is survived by two sons, Harry, of Los Angeles, California, and Melvin of
Portland, Oregon; one brother, Melvin Lake of Bay City and one sister, Mrs.
Jennie Witrig, in New York City, and six stepchildren, Mrs. Earl Hendricks, of
Caledonia, Mrs. Harry Dodds of Saranac, Mrs. Harley Fay, of Washington state;
Mrs. Robert Pollock, Lansing; Mrs. Ernest Olson, Allegan, and Glenn Lavender,
Lansing.  His wife, Nina passed away 14 months ago.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3:30 at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Dodds, and burial was in the Lake family lot in Lowell.  Rev. Frank Loomis
officiated.

Those from away attending the George Lake funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Earl
Hendricks, Caledonia; Melvin Lake, Bay City; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pollock,
Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Tucker and daughter, Clarksville, George Tucker, Mrs.
Ernest Tucker and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Courter, South Boston, Mrs. E.C. Good,
Ionia, and several from Lowell.

Mr. and Mrs. George Duchaine and Mrs. Anna Friebe of Bay City brought their
father, Melvin Lake, here Sunday to attend the George Lake funeral.
