She was born on March 17, 1900 in Danby Township, the daughter of Frank and Estella (Baldwin) Pryer. Mrs. Lakin graduated from Portland High School, Eastern Michigan University and Michigan State University. She was a retired school teacher, a leader of Girl Scout Troop, a president of Danby Ladies Literary Club and Portland Ladies Literary Club. She married Elon D. Lakin on March 27, 1923. Together, they were members of Danby Grange and Portland Grange. She was Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and county president, a member of the Portland United Methodist Church and the Martha Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elon on Oct. 20, 1978; and daughter, Lois Ann; and sister, Margaret Jacques. Surviving are her daughters, Ann Lois (Grayden) Slowins and Phyllis Marian (James) Boyer; grandchildren, Joe (Jody) Slowins, Karen Pambin, Dan Slowins, Kris Slowins, Debbie (Barry) Root, Kathy (Fred) Jacobi and Suzie (Paul) Lawmaster; and great-grandchildren, Philip Pappas, Ryan Root, Janet (Root) Witt, Steven Root, Hannah Jacobi, Garrick Jacobi, Hilary Jacobi, Micah Jacobi, Sean Lawmaster and Rachel Lawmaster. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Scott K. Otis, Pastor of the Portland United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., Friday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral home, 1301 E. Grand River Ave., Portland, with interment following at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
