Robert was born to Clare and Elner (Nelson) Lambert in lake Odessa,Mich.He attended Michigan State University and graduated with a degree in landscape architecture. After college, Robert served int he U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma After completing his military service, he began a forty- years professional career as a college campus planner.His first position was at Oakland University in Michigan and continued on to Michigan State University, the University of Maryland, at the State University of New York(SUNY), and finally SUNY Morrisville. Shortly after retirement, he received a distinguished service recognition from the New York chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Through the years, Robert did extensive volunteering for local zoning boards and Historical societies. Robert was a talented sketch artist, but also a master craftsman who built clocks, cabinetry, and guns. He completely restored a pneumatic player piano that the family enjoyed for decades. Robert also designed and built his house in Morrisville in the early 1980s, which was one of the first homes in the county to use passive solar and geothermal energy. The house serves as the center of family gatherings for over a quarter century. He was a huge fan of swing-era big band music and a student of military history. Robert maintained a high quality of life right up until his passing, with active participation in a multitude of community activities, most notably the town of Bethlehem Senior Services programs. Robert was preceded by his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia June (Skelding) Lambert; his sister, Jean Stowell Schwarting; and his brother, Jack Lambert. He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn McNary; his son, Matthew Lambert; his granddaughters,Nicole (Mark) Passino and Kelsey (David) Thachik; and his great- grandsons, Dean Thachik and Oliver Passino. A private memorial service will take place for family members and friends.
