He died in Sacramento, California, May 11, 1904. He was taken sick with appendicitis on April 11, and was taken to the hospital; he was operated on April 26, but it was too late to save him. He had the best of tender care and medical treatment. He passed away on May 11, at 12:30 p.m. His cousin, James Scarr, who is at the head of the U.S. weather bureau took charge of the funeral . Rev. Hoskinson of the M.E. church officiated. The casket was covered with many beautiful flowers, sent by his friends who also attended the services and burial. He was left sleeping on the sunny western slope of a green terrace lawn, in a beautiful cemetery to await the summons that shall call us all to an awakening, from which the earth’s shadows shall be vanished and earth’s sorrows forgotten.
