ANDREW): GRAND RAPIDS PRESS, MI, 7-12-1933: "SARANAC - Death yesterday claimed Mrs. Lane, 90, another Ionia County pioneer, after an illness of several months. She was born in Kent County but had lived in this community the past 70 years. She was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Moye, who came here from Switzerland. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Eva Walter, of Saranac, 4 sons, Charles of Detroit, Adelbert and Howard of Pontiac, and Florence Lane of Saranac. The funeral will be held at the residence Friday, at 2 p.m. with burial in Saranac Cemetery." THE ADVERTISER, SARANAC, MICH.; July 12, 1933 - "MRS. CAROLINE E. LANE - Mrs. Caroline E. Lane, a pioneer resident of Berlin township, whose home has been in Saranac for the past thirty-one years, passed away Tuesday morning after an illness of five weeks. The funeral will be held at the home on Vosper street Friday afternoon at 2:00, conducted by her old pastor, L. W. Halladay, of Big Rapids, assisted by Rev. E. H. Humphrey of this place. Mrs. Lane was the oldest resident of Saranac and was the last of those who lived on the road between Saranac and Lake Odessa that passed by their Berlin farm, when they came to the farm. She had a very large circle of acquaintances and friends." THE ADVERTISER, July 19, 1933: OBITUARY - Caroline Elizabeth Lane, third child of Samuel and Mary Myers Moye, was born at Hamtramck, Mich., March 22, 1843, and passed to the life beyond July 11, 1933, at the age of 90 years, 3 months and 19 days. While she was an infant, the family moved to Vergennes, Kent county, where she grew to womanhood, and taught school for a few terms. On October 20, 1860, she was married to Andrew Lane, who passed away Dec. 17, 1916. In 1865 they moved to Berlin, Ionia county, where they lived for many years. In 1891 they moved to Saranac, where they made their home for about four years, when they returned to the farm in Berlin. In 1902 they sold the farm and bought the house on Vosper street which has since been her home. For about 50 years she has lived a Christian life and passed away with a strong hope in Christ as her Saviour. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Eva Walter, of Saranac; and four sons: Adelbert of Pontiac; Florance E. of Saranac; Charles H. of Detroit, and G. Howard of Pontiac; also eighteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Two sons have preceded her, Everett, who died in infancy, and Samuel, who passed away at the age of 11 years. She also leaves two brothers and two sisters, who reside in the west. The funeral was held on Friday, July 14, at the home. The services were in charge of a former pastor, Rev. W. L. Halladay, of Big Rapids, assisted by Rev. F. H. Humphrey, pastor of the Congregational church of Saranac. Burial was in Saranac cemetery. The bearers were her sons and grandsons." CARD OF THANKS, July 19, 1933: "CARD OF THANKS - We wish to express our thanks to the many friends who extended their kindness and sympathy to us during the illness and at the time of the death of our loved one, Mrs. Caroline E. Lane. The family. In Memory of Mrs. Caroline E. Lane - Our mother's eyes are closed to earth; Our mother's voice is still; We do not grieve that she must go, It is the dear Lord's will. For years His word has been her guide; His love has been her stay; Her hand was ever held to us, That we might see the way." "Relatives and friends were here from the following places to attend the funeral of Mrs. Caroline E. Lane: Detroit, Pontiac, Grand Rapids, Coleman, Coopersville, Lakeview, Belding, Ionia, Lake Odessa, Clarksville, Lowell and Hastings." Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Lane and Mrs. and Mrs. Howard Lane accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Charles Topp to their home at Gary, Ind., Sunday, returning Monday."
