Lane, 70, of 650 E. Beardsley Road, Sheridan, died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Sheridan Community Hospital. He was born Oct. 1, 1934, in Ionia, the son of Eugene and Roma Ehle Lane. He married Eleanor L. O’Berry on June 26, 1953, in Sheridan. Wayne was a longtime resident of Sheridan, where he formerly owned and operated Wayne’s Welding and Repair, as well as the Standard and Shell stations. He was formerly a mechanic at Beardslee Olds in Sheridan as well. He was a Boy Scout leader for more than 20 years, was a past member of the Sheridan Village Council, Sheridan Lions club and Sheridan Fire Department, where he served as the fire chief for several years. He was currently a trustee on the Evergreen Township Board and also served on the Career Center Advisory Committee. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Meritt Lane; and father-in-law, Earl O’Berry. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor L. Lane; mother-in-law, Faye Marguerite O’Berry; children, Greg Lane, Mike and Becky Lane, Doug and Norrine Lane, Dennis Lane, Lori and Tony Brace, all of Sheridan; grandchildren, Penney, Sandi, Katie, Karish, Andrea, Jessica, Alycia, Elizabeth, Ashley, Brittany; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret and Gilbert Morris of Fenwick; brother-in-law and his wife, Merlin and Janice O’Berry of Fenwick; two sisters-in-law, Lois and Wayne Young of Dansville, Donna Robert of Orleans; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Free Methodist Church, Sheridan, with Pastor Jim Vandewarker officiating. Interment is in Evergreen Cemetery, Sheridan. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Simpson Family Funeral Home, Sheridan. The family suggests memorial considerations to the Sheridan Fire Department or Evergreen Free Methodist Church.
