She was born on January 18, 1961 in Ionia, Michigan. Susan was currently residing in Oak Grove, Kentucky where she was employed with Ft. Campbell Federal Credit Union since October of 1995 as a Card Services Manager. She loved to spend time with her daughters and family and was actively involved with the Hopkinsville High School Marching Band and Winterguard. Her strength and faith in God, and the love of her family and friends gave her the courage to accept whatever obstacles she faced throughout her life. She would spend each morning reading her Bible, reflecting on its meaning and making it a part of her life. The family would like to especially thank her friend, Maria McKee, who was there for Susan's daughters and her family in Michigan during her illness. We would also like to thank the many physicians and nurses at the Jennie Stuart Medical Center who cared for Susan. She was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis and her brother, Mark. Surviving are her daughters, Mary and Mindy Laney, both living at home and her former husband, Doug Laney, who she continued to have a special fondness for and was a great deal of help during this difficult time. Susan is also survived by her father and step mother, Lynn and Nancy Miller; four brothers, Scott (Shari) of Eugene, Oregon, Terry (Debi) of St. Johns, Roger (Mary), Dennis (Sally) and sister-in-law, Sandy Miller all of Portland; along with several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be conducted by the Rev. Gregory Wolfe, Pastor of the Portland United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland with Interment following at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Ionia, MI. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
