For some weeks past he had been feeling poorly and after an examination by skilled physicians it was found that he had tumors in his stomach and an operation was thought to be the only way to save his life. He went to the hospital about two weeks ago and the operation revealed a worse state of disease than had been anticipated and it was realized that his death was only a question of a few weeks at best. Mr. Lapham has been a resident of this city for the past nineteen years, was seventy-two years of age and leaves besides his wife whom he married in this city sixteen years ago, two sons, Frank of Middleton, New York and George of St. Johns, and two daughters, Mrs. Mary Williams of St. Johns and little Margaret of this city. Strong and vigorous all his life, Mr. Lapham found much joy and happiness in hunting, fishing and trapping and every year the call of the wild lured him from the scenes of home life to camp in the silent wilderness. A good man, he will be greatly missed by those who now mourn his departure. The remains were taken to his former home at St. Johns for burial.
