Lapo, 75, of Lake Odessa died Monday at Ionia County Memorial Hospital after an illness of several years. Born in Ionia, July 11, 1912, she was the daughter of Frank and Katherine Kalkofen Abfalter. She was graduated from SS. Peter and Paul Academy and was married to Raymond Lapo in 1925. They operated their farm equipment and automobile sales and service business until retiring for health reasons in 1974. He died July 3, 1976. For 30 years she served as chairman of the Red Cross Bloodmobile drive in Lake Odessa, and was active in the Ionia County Red Cross Chapter, including as a director, for more than 30 years. She was an early member of Ionia County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and served as auxiliary president. She was also a member of the board of the Ionia County Memorial Hospital Foundation. She served as a member of the Ionia County Library Board for eight years. Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Fred (Mary) Thwaites of Ionia and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Enola and Dorothea. Memorial mass will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Lake Odessa, with the Rev. James Bozung officiating. No visitation hours will be held. Memorials have been established for the Lake Odessa Ambulance and the Ionia Area Hospice, in care of Koops Funeral Chapel, which made arrangements.
