LAPO DIED TUESDAY Charles A.Lapo, 95, retired business man passed away at his home Tuesday morning. He was born in Seneca county, Ohio and came with his parents, Jacob and Sarah Lapo when two years old to a farm in Sebewa township. After his marriage to Nettie Bishop they operated a general store at Rosina, east of town before moving the business to Woodbury after the railroad was built. He built the first business building there and formed a partnership with Dan Fender selling farm implements and harnesses. Mr. Lapo was the first Post master at Woodbury and after serving four years was out four years by change administration and then back again to serve four more years. In 1901 they moved to Lake Odessa where they built a business block on the east side of Main street purchasing the building from the late Hale McCarney. He took over the interests of his partner in 1914, as Mr.Fender retired because of ill health. Mr.Lapo was very active in the Republican party and was also active in civic and community affairs. He served as Odessa township clerk for 32 years and township treasurer for two years, also served as village assessor and clerk for several years. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. John (Veda) Blickenstaff of Plymouth, Mrs.Aubrey (Hildred) Davis and Mrs.Dean (Opal) Dodge; one son Claire all of Lake Odessa; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday (today) at the Pickens funeral chapel with burial in Lakeside Cemetery. Rev. Paul Robinson will officiate.
