April 30, 1931 ORRIS A LAPO DIED AFTER LONG ILLNESS Prominent Business Man Many Years Well Known in Town and Vicinity. Leaves many Friends. After months that lengthened into years of hoping against disease, the soul of a splendid character passed from mortal bounds and the life of Orris A. Lapo passed from this life's scene of action. But Mr. Lapo left a record of fair dealing and a conscientious Christian experience as a legacy, not only to his family and relatives but to the entire community. For more than thirty years he was in business in Lake Odessa. Coming here in 1892 he gave the best years of his life to this community. He engaged for many years in the hardware business and for a few years in the grocery business. When his health began o fail he left this activity and engaged in real estate here and in Lansing where he built and sold new homes. In fact he made this a hobby even while in the mercantile business. Having lived in Sebewa as well as Lake Odessa he made many friends there as well as here which was verified by the large attendance at the funeral which was held Monday afternoon at Central Methodist Church where he was an official member for many years. Rev. G.F. Rulman, the pastor spoke from the test. "In My Father's House are Many Rooms, I go in prepare a place for you." A male quartet, M.G. Morgan, L.T. Gilson, G.E. Kart, and S.W. Dann sang "Guide and Guard Us." and "Nearer My God to Thee." Burial was at Lakeside cemetery. Mr.Lapo was a kind and loving husband and father, a splendid neighbor and a loyal friend.He was sincere and faithful with both man and God, what better record could any man leave. Those from out of town to attend the funeral were: George Allbaugh and son of Tiffin, Ohio; Mr and Mrs.Drayton Miley of Shepard; Mrs.Jennie McCartney, Willard Brown of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs George Lapo, Mr and Mrs Earl Lapo of Portland; Mrs W. Blickenstaff, Plymouth; Mr Forrest Klingman, Grand Ledge; Mr and Mrs Lawrence Albright, Lyons; George Hazzard of Ionia. OBITUARY Orris A. Lapo was born in Sebewa,, Ionia County, Michigan on July 3, 1861, and departed this life at his home in Lake Odessa on April 24, 1931. He was next to the oldest son in a family of children of Reuben and Alice Lapo. He was united in marriage to Emma S.Horn of Woodbury, February 11, 1886. They began home making on a farm in Sebewa where they lived until 1892, when they moved to Lake Odessa. Mr.Lapo entered into business and has long been identified with Lake Odessa business circles. Mr.Lapo was a sincere and faithful Christian and member of Central Methodist church. He served as a member of the official board of Central church for the past ten years previous to his failing health. He leaves to mourn their great loss, his loving wife, a daughter Ivah now Mrs.Dale Griffin, a son Roy, and a grandson Mark; all of Indianapolis, Ind., also a brother Alonzo A. Lapo, besides many other relatives and a host of friends. "Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell When I embark; For though from out the bourne of time and place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face, When I have crossed the bar. CARD OF THANKS We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the neighbors and friends for their kindness and sympathy during the long illness and death of our beloved husband and father. we also thank the many friends for the beautiful flowers and Rev.
