All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Maureen Cross mcross3454@gmail.com May 16, 2020, 9:54 pm Lake Odessa Wave PIONEER RESIDENT PASSES EIGHTY-FOUR YEARS OF SERVICE --------- Mrs. Hannah Lapo-Baker, who has been a resident of Sebewa and Lake Odessa for many years, in fact since Michigan was new, passed away at her home in Lake Odessa Monday evening after a weeks illness of pneumonia. Mrs. Lapo's maiden name was Wiley and she came to Michigan from Seneca county, Ohio, settling in Sebewa. She was married to Reuben Lapo in 1858 and was the mother of Alonzo, Ora and Guy, all living here in the village. She lost her husband in 1884 and married Rev. Baker in 1910, who died in July 1920. Mrs. Lapo was a loyal member of the Baptist church in Sebewa and when coming to Lake Odessa, did much to help keep up meetings to the Baptist chapel here. She was a kind and accommodating neighbor and pleasant to meet, always having a smile. The funeral was held at her home Thursday forenoon, Rev. Issac Mourer an old friend of the family preacher Rev. Hatfield of Seven Baptist church made a prayer and the music was by Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Goodemoot, Mrs. Thomas Johnson, David Leak, accompanied by Mrs. Stanley Dann. Burial was at Lakeside.
