LAPWORTH LOCAL BANKER DIED SUNDAY AFTER LONG ILLNESS Robert K. Lapworth, 61, passed away Sunday night at Pennock Hospital after a long illness. He had been hospitalized for the last three weeks. A native of the Flushing area, he was a graduate of the Flushing High School and attended Albion College. Mr. Lapworth entered the banking business in 1924 with the Peoples State Bank at Flushing. In 1932 he became a state bank examiner with the Michigan Banking department where he remained until 1945 when he came to Lake Odessa as cashier of the Union Bank. After the death of Fredric Baine he became president of the bank. Mr. Lapworth took special interest and was active in all phases of community life and civic affairs. He was a member of the Central Methodist Church its organizations, and held an office on the church board. He was past master of the Flushing Masonic lodge, a member of the Lake Odessa Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and Masonic lodge, a member and past president of the Lake Odessa Lions Club, member of the Ionia Country Club, and he had served on the village council. He married Gladys M. Luce September 8, 1926, who survives. Other survivors are three daughters Mrs. Theron (Roberta) King and Mrs. Max (Phyllis) Decker of Lake Odessa and Mrs. Lowell (Jane) Thomas of Midland and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Pickens Funeral Chapel, with burial in Lakeside cemetery. Rev. Luther Brokaw officiated, assisted by Rev. Floyd Fitch of Muskegon.
