Lake Odessa Wave - July 6, 1983
          GLADYS M. LAPWORTH
   LAKE ODESSA - Gladys M. Lapworth, 79, 830 Sixth Ave., Lake Odessa, died June 29
at Blodgett Memorial 
Medical Center, Grand Rapids.
   She was born January 22, 1904, in Flushing, the daughter of Charles and Florence
Bump Luce.
   She graduated from Flushing High School in 1921.  She also graduated from
Michigan Normal School, 
Ypsilanti.
   She taught rural elementary schools in Flushing and Owosso.
   She married Robert Lapworth September 8, 1926.  He preceded her in death June 25,
1965.  they moved to 
Lake Odessa in 1945 when Mr. Lapworth became an officer in Union Bank.
   She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, The U.M.W. Eastern Star,
past-president of the 
Lake Odessa Women's Club, a member of the Ionia Hospital Guild and active in the
American Cancer Society, 
Red Cross activities, and was past superintendent of Sunday School.
   She is survived by her children: Roberta and Theron King, Phyllis and Max Decker,
both of Lake Odessa and 
Jane and Lowell Thomas, Midland; three sisters; Hazel Root and Reva Vielhauer of
Pinkney and Winifred Lamb 
of Tawas City; nine grandchildren a four great-grandchildren.
   A brother preceded her in death.
   Funeral services were held Saturday, July 2 from the Pickens-Koops Funeral
Chapel, Lake Odessa with the 
Rev. Stephen Keller officiating.
   Burial was in the Lakeside Cemetery.
   A memorial has been established for the Central United Methodist Church and the
Lake Odessa Ambulance 
Service and may be left at the Funeral Home.
