LASH PRESIDING ELDER OF THE RADICAL U.B. CHURCH DIED Illness of a Few days Ends Fatally. Splendid Citizen. Loyal to Churches He Served. Rev. O.R. Lash Presiding Elder of the Radical United Brethren church and his wife have made their home in Lake Odessa a number of years. During which time they have quietly made many friends. They are people who have held the respect and confidence of all who new them. Saturday, Dec. 3rd, Mr Lash was down town but on going home went to his bed not feeling well. Soon that dreaded disease diphtheria attacked him and all medical skill could not stay it course and he died Friday morning, Dec. 9. The funeral was held in the yard of his home on Saturday, it being an open air funeral on account of the disease. He was laid to rest at Lake Side Cemetery. Rev. Early of Sunfield and Rev. Beardsley of this place had charge of the services. OBITUARY Rev. Orval R. Lash was born in Clear Lake Township, Steuben County, Ind., March 9, 1867, and died at Lake Odessa, Mich., Dec. 9, 1921, being 54 years and nine months old. He was the eldest child of Samuel and Eliza Lash. In his early childhood he moved with his parents to Ohio, returning to Indiana at about eight years of age. He was born of Christian parentage and was early taught to reverence and trust God. A few days before his eighteenth birthday he was brightly converted and soon felt his call to the Gospel Ministerially. In November 1885 he was granted quarterly conference license to preach and in September 1886 at a session of the North Ohio Conference of the United Brethren church, held at Stryker, Ohio, he was granted Annual Conference license, Bishop J. Dickson presiding at the Conference. In September 1888 he was given the pastorate of a work in Michigan Conference and on the 13th day of the same month was united in marriage to Miss Isolo Tuttle of Hasting, who after thirteen years went home to Heaven. To this union four children were born Floyd M., who was killed by a switch engine in Wisconsin March 29, 1909, Gail, Carl M., and Lucile, who died at birth and was buried with her mother September 1, 1901 On Christmas day 1902 he was united in Marriage to Miss Lillian R. Burnham of Allegan, Mich. To them one son Carter B., was born to stay only four short years and went to be with Jesus, April 4, 1908. During his minstry in the church, Rev. Lash served the following fields in Michigan conference: Eaton Mission, Dover Circuit, Castleton Circuit, Sunfield Circuit, Barry Circuit, Salem Circuit and Freeport Circuit, also was serving his tenth terms Presiding Elder when the terrible disease diphtheria, overtook him and he was called from labor to reward. His christian integrity has won many warm friends. He leaves to mourn his devoted wife, one daughter, Mrs Gail Ryan, of Jackson, one son Carl M. of Grand Rapids, four sisters, one brother, four grandchildren and a host of loving friends. His remains were laid to rest in Lake Side Cemetery to wait the resurrection morning.
