LAUGHLIN DIES SUDDENLY MONDAY Clarksville’s Only Physician Passes from Heart Attack Early in Morning. Funeral Held Thursday. Dr. A.I. Laughlin, 59, Clarksville’s only physician, died suddenly from a heart attack at his home shortly after six o’clock Monday morning. He arose, apparently in his usual health, and went down stairs. Mrs. Laughlin heard him but did not know that he was ill until she came down a short time later and found him dead on the sofa. Coroner Myers of Ionia was called since it is the duty of a coroner to prepare a death certificate in the absence of an attending physician who can make out the statement required by the statute. Dr. Laughlin attended a medical meeting at Lansing on Thursday of last week and on Friday a reunion of his class at Ann Arbor and appeared to be in the best of health. Aside from the widow, he is survived by a son Gaylord, a teacher in the Coopersville public schools. The funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon from the Congregational Church in Clarksville and interment was made in the St. Johns cemetery by the side of his parents. Dr. Arthur I. Laughlin was graduated from the St. Johns high school and from the University of Michigan medical school with the class of 1903. He was very favorably known throughout this community having practiced at Woodbury for several years prior to his moving to Clarksville. It was while he resided at Woodbury that he was married to a Lake Odessa girl, Miss Katherine Becker. He also conducted a general store for a few years at Woodbury. Dr. Laughlin had been president of the Edwin Nash Sate Bank at Clarksville for many years and was also secretary of the board of education there. He served as village president for a number of years, was treasurer of the Clarksville F. &.A.M., and past master.
