Ionia Sentinel Standard, 22 Oct 1956

Word was received in Ionia of the death of Mrs. W.A. Laurie of Detroit, former
resident of Ionia, who died unexpectedly at her home last week.  Interment was
in Roseland cemetery in Detroit Friday.  Mrs. Laurie was born in Ionia, the
former Daisy Cornell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lucian A. Cornell who were
pioneer residents of Ionia.  As a small child and young girl she lived for many
years on West Main street in Ionia in the “Cornell Castle” which was destroyed
by fire some years ago.

After her marriage to W.A. Laurie her parents built her a home east of the old
homestead where she lived for many years and where her children were born.  This
is the home now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Kanouse.

Surviving are two children, Robert Laurie and Jane Baldwin, both of Detroit,
three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. D.A. VanAuken
and Mrs. B.L. Berry, both of Lansing.  A year ago, an only brother, Arthur
Cornell died and was buried in Ionia.
