LAUSTER Was Prominently Identified with Ionia's Business Interests for Many Years. The funeral service for Charles Lauster will be attended from the Presbyterian church, of which he was a member, Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. Joseph H. Green will conduct the service. Burial will take place at Highland Park cemetery. Charles Lauster, aged 54 well known Ionia grocery dealer for more than a quarter of a century, passed away Wednesday evening at his home over the Lauster Market, after an illness of several years duration. His death had been expected for a number of weeks. Although he had been in poor health for a number of years he had been able to get about to some extent except for the past few weeks. The grocery store, which still bears the name of the Lauster Market, and is conducted by Frank Gazella and Ed. S. Decker, was founded by Gottlieb Lauster, father of Charles Lauster. Mr. Lauster and his son, Charles Lauster, conducted the grocery for a number of years, the son acting as a silent partner. Gottlieb Lauster died in 1894. In 1899 Fred Lauster, brother of Charles Lauster, joined with him in the business. Later Fred Lauster dissolved partnership with his brother, and started a bakery on West Main street in the building occupied by the Orpheum theater. He later changed the building into a theater. Fred Lauster's death occurred only a short time after opening the theatre. During the week of November 7, 1923, Charles Lauster sold his grocery business to William G. Longe and his son, W. Fred Longe, whose death occurred during 1924, and Frank Gazella, as a third member of the firm. Mr. Gazella had been in the employ of Mr. Lauster for a number of years. Mr. Lauster is the fourth Ionian-connected with the grocery business in the city to die during the past eight months. W. Fred Longe, a member of the firm of the Long-Wakefield company, William G. Longe & Son, and the Lauster Market, passed away June 5, 1924, following a serious illness. September 12, Thurman Hutchins, died at his home on North Rich street after an illness lasting several weeks. G. M. Phelps, whose death occurred last fall, was the third Ionia grocer to precede Mr. Lauster in death. Mr. Lauster was a member of Ionia lodge, B.P.O.E. No. 548. Mr. Lauster is survived by his widow, who before her marriage was Miss Sue Kenyon; a brother, George Lauster, and a sister, Mrs. Sophia Morganthaler, both residents of this city and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lena Lauster, East Washington street.
