He was born August 9, 1867, in Germany and came to the United States at the age of 15. June 25, 1889 he was married to Miss Frances Hitzel in St. Joseph’s Catholic church, Belding. The couple moved to Ionia where they had owned and operated a restaurant and cafeteria for over thirty years. His wife preceded him in death July 21, 1943. Mr. Laux was a member of SS. Peter and Paul church of Ionia, the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Ionia Elk’s lodge. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Charlotte M. Nolan of Ionia, a son, Cletius M. Laux, of Detroit; two grandchildren, Clayton E. Nolan, of Ionia, and Richmond M. Laux, of Detroit. Another grandson, Donald J. Nolan, died October 18, 1937. Also surviving is a great grandson, Anthony Daniel Nolan; a half brother, William Laux, of Belding. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. The body will repose at the Myers funeral home.
