Death took a rather heavy toll in lives last Saturday when the final summons came to four residents of the Miriam district and as it happens all members of St. Mary’s Catholic church there for practically their entire life times. Two of the deaths followed months of lingering and painful illness and one of them followed an illness of a week while another resulted from heart failure and came so sudden that not a word was uttered to indicate that the stricken one was ill. Mrs. J. P. Laux Mrs. J. P. Laux, the first of the quartette to die, passed away at the Belding hospital, Saturday morning at four o’clock, following an operation for cancer of the breast. While Mrs. Laux had not been ill, she had been at the hospital for a week, during which the operation was performed. Mrs. Laux was 63 years of age, having been born on October 29, 1856 in Ottawa county. In April, 1875 she was married to J. P. Laux, in St. Mary’s Catholic church, Miriam and the then young couple took up their residence south of the city where her entire married life was spent. The funeral was held on Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock from St. Mary’s church and interment was in St. Mary’s cemetery. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Frank and Albert, of Miriam, three daughters, Susie, of Detroit, Mrs. Ed. Schoenborn, of Reno and Lillian, at home, two brothers, Julius and Frank Dohm, of Berlin, this state and three sisters, Mrs. Henry Dittmann, of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Theodore Boge, California and Mrs. Susan Johnson, of Lansing.
