Helen Mae Lawens, 82, of Pewamo passed away at her home March 17, 2003.  She 
was born September 24, 1920 in Pewamo the daughter of Arthur and Velma 
(Cooper) Gillespie.  She married Gerald Lawens February 1962 who preceded her 
in death April 1990.  She was a former member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 
in Pewamo.

She is survived by her son Mike Lawens and special friend Kris Mitchell of 
Pewamo; daughter Teresa and Steve Curns of Lyons, sister Betty Winkler of Las 
Vegas; grandchildren Andy and Lisa Lawens of Vickeryville, Jeremy Lawens of 
Seattle, Angel Curns of Lyons, Amber Curns of Lyons, Shane Curns of Lyons and 
two great-grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister Maxine Rock and one 
grandson Scott Lawens.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lawens will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Lake Funeral 
Home in Muir with Father Mason officiating.  Interment will be in the spring 
at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pewamo.  The family will receive friends 
and family Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home with a 
Rosary at 7 p.m.
