Nicholas Perry Lawless, 88, of Portland passed away peacefully with his family 
by his side on Sept. 13. 2008.

Dad and Grandpa will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for his wonderful 
Irish sense of humor and wit along with his generosity to all who knew him. He 
was a storyteller who could sit and tell stories for hours. Perry was a 
lifelong farmer and a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and 
great-grandfather. He was member of St. Patrick Church and St. Stephen’s Church 
in Lake City. He was an avid reader, hunter, fisherman, bowler and loved 
playing cards and board games. He had the biggest of hearts and as they say; a 
heard is not judged by how much it loves, by how much it is loved by others. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Kathleen Irene (Fedewa) 
Lawless, and an infant daughter, Kay. He was also preceded in death by parents 
Nicholas and Anna Lawless; siblings Anita (Ross) Scholtens, Eleanor (Harvey) 
Brown and brother-in-law, Richard Wernette.

He is survived by his sister, Jean Wernette; children, Terrace (Vicky) Lawless, 
Barbara (Darrell) Mitchell, Brian (Patty) Lawless and Beth (William) Emelander; 
grandchildren Ryan Lawless, Nick Lawless, Mandy (Lawless) and Ryan Johnston, 
Kevin Mitchell, Nhu Do, Scott and Tracey Mitchell, Jeff Mitchell, Cassidy and 
Cole Lawless, Eric and Brook Emelander; great-grandchildren, Logan, Lileigh, 
Evelyn, Garry, Cierra and Carissa.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Sept. 16 at St. Patrick’s 
Catholic Church, Portland with Rev. Larry King, presiding. Rite of Committal 
followed at Portland Cemetery.
