Lawrence, 50, lifelong resident of Ionia county, died at his home, 112 Wood avenue, Sunday morning following a long illness. He had been in poor health for the past three years, but had been seriously ill for the past year. He was born in Orange township, September 31, 1885 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Zack Lawrence. He attended the Ritenberg school in Orange township and later when his parents moved to Portland and he attended the high school there. He was married October 10, 1906, and he and Mrs. Lawrence lived for a number of years in Orange township and near Tremaynes corners in Berlin township where Mr. Lawrence worked for Jay Harwood. They moved to Lake Odessa about 11 years ago and for a time Mr. Lawrence did carpenter work. They came to Ionia 10 years ago and he was employed as assistant hall master at the Michigan reformatory for a number of years. Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Duffey, of Gun Lake; and Mrs. Letha O’Conner, Lake Odessa; his mother in Arizona; one brother, William Lawrence, of Swan Lake, Montana; one sister, in the west; a half brother, Robert Lawrence, of Grand Rapids; one granddaughter, Phyllis Duffey. Funeral services will be held from the home Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 with Rev. Fr. Edwin G. White, pastor of St. John’s Episcopal church, officiating. Interment will be at the family lot at Lakeside cemetery.
