He was born Dec. 15, 1927, in Jellico, Tenn., the son of George and Ida Morgan Lay. He was a retired country western guitar player and played for several bands in the local area. He is survived by two daughters, Gail Lay and Jayne Lay, both of Newaygo; a son and daughter-in-law, Nicky and Pat Lay of Walker; stepdaughter Adae Bauer of Crystal; stepson Truman Wireman and his fiancée Betty Knorr of Palo; six grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Ella Jean and Junior McCoy of St. Mary’s, Ohio; brother Vines Lay of Belding; sister-in-law Jeannie Lay of Belding. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Goman, Ernest, Bill, and Arles; two sisters, Violet and Rosetta; special friend Florence Wireman. Cremation was held. Graveside services at Greene Cemetery, Belding, will be announced by the Johnson Funeral Home, Belding.
