Wave, Thurs. Nov. 30, 1978 Genevieve A. Layer, 88, of 6396 Alden Nash Rd., Alto, died Thursday afternoon, Nov. 23, at the Kent Community Hospital in Grand Rapids. Services were held Saturday at 3:30 pm at the Clarksville Bible Church, Rev. Russell Spray officiated and burial was in the Bowne Cemetery, Alto. She was born in Ada, Oct. 29, 1890, the daughter of Anthony and Frances (Gardiner) McCaul. She attended the Lake Elementary School, graduated from Clarksville High School and in 1917 graduated from the Ionia County Normal. She taught at the Rosenberger, Goram and Sage schools. She was a charter member of the Elmdale Nazarene Church. She married Glenn Layer of Ionia, who died in 1962. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Helen Craig of Clarksville; three grandchildren, Charles and Michael Craig of Clarksville and Ms. Dennis (Jacqueline) Videau; two sisters, Mrs. Francis (Evelyn) Shaffer of Alto and Mrs. Eugene (Grace) Trasello of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ila McCaul of Plainwell, Mrs. Mabel McCaul of Lowell and Ms. Mary McCaul of Clarksville, and a foster son, Paul Borton of Morristown, Ind. Arrangements were made by the Pickens-Koops Chapel.
