Leaves Widow and Six Children. Came Here from Canada. George Layle who was one of Odessa’s royal hearted men died Sunday after being stricken with paralysis on Friday. Although he had not been real strong for some years still his collapse came as a great surprise to his family. Mr. Layle leaves his wife and six children to mourn his sudden departure. Mr. Layle came to the United States from Canada and was a thorough, hard working farmer. The family have the sympathy of many neighbors and friends. Obituary. George Layle was born in Norfolk County, Ontario, August 6, 1851 and departed this life February 15, 1925, at the age of seventy-three years, six months and nine days. March 22, 1874 he was united in marriage with Anna M. Kreiss, also of Canada. To this union six children were born: Mrs. Agnes Karcher of Hastings, Nettie at home, Mrs. Inez Giddings of Campbell, George of Hastings, Floyd of Odessa and Dorr of Ionia. The family came to Michigan in the spring of 1875, living many years in Barry County and later in Ionia County. They have resided for the past sixteen years at the farm home in West Odessa. Besides the children above mentioned he leaves to mourn his departure, the wife, two brothers and one sister, also three grand children and many other relatives and friends. Although he had been in poor health for many years he was seldom unable to attend to his farm duties, until Friday afternoon when he was stricken with paralysis while sitting in his chair. Everything was done but he passed away the following Sunday. Funeral was held at the house Wednesday afternoon at 1:30, services conducted by Rev. Spafford and burial in Lake Side cemetery. Those who attended the funeral from away were: Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Layle of Bay City, Mrs. Minnie Alger of Detroit, Mrs. W. J. Carkenord and Miss Margaret Gerould of Kalamazoo, Mr. and Mrs. Charles O’Connell and James Kreiss of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Roy Downs and Mr. and Mrs. Hayes of Hastings and Mr. and Mrs. William Terrell of Woodland.
