For many years Mrs. Layle lived west of town but with the boys working in Ionia she went there to reside. On September last she and her children at home when to Bay City to visit cousins. On the way to a church supper the automobile in which she was riding met with an accident that injured her spine and from which she never recovered. She suffered much the remaining ten weeks of her life, but was tenderly cared for by her children and a kind nurse. The family have the sympathy of many friends and neighbors. Mrs. Anna Layle, aged 71, passed away at her home, 451 Harter St., Ionia, Mich., on Friday, November 26, 1926. Her death resulted from an injury to the spine received in an automobile accident, Sunday, September 19, while visiting relatives in Bay City. Mrs. Layle was born May 14, 1855, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kreise of Norfolk county, Ontario. She was married March 22, 1874 to George Layle, also of Canada. A year later they moved to Michigan, living the greater part of the time in Barry and Ionia counties. About a year ago she moved to Ionia from the farm home in West Odessa where she with her husband and family had lived for several years. The family consisted of six children: Mrs. Frank Giddings of Campbell, Floyd of Odessa, Mrs. Agnes Karcher, George, Dorr and Nettie of Ionia. Besides the children she is survived by three grandchildren and a sister and two brothers living in Canada. Throughout her life she has always shown a Christian sprit in assisting others in time of need and giving her support to any worthy cause. The patience and courage with which she bore her last great affliction was truly wonderful, seeming to be more mindful of the comfort of others than of her own suffering and saying always, “God knows best.” Funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Lake Odessa, Monday at 1:30, conducted by Rev. Kendrick of Ionia. The music was by Mrs. Wm. Tietz, Mrs. W. C. McCartney and Mrs. Thomas Johnson. Interment was in Lake Side cemetery beside her husband who departed this life February 15, 1925. Card of Thanks: We wish to express our appreciation to Rev. Kendrick for his kind words, the singers and pall bearers for their kindnesses, the Hayes-Ionia office force and employees of the metal department, also to the friends and neighbors both of Ionia and Odessa for the beautiful flowers and for any acts of kindness done during the sickness and death of our dear mother.
