Betty J. Layle, of Ionia, age 85, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007.

She was born on Dec. 12, 1922 in Ionia the daughter of Milton and Iva (Hill) 
Decker. Betty graduated from the Ionia High School in 1940. She worked for 20 
years at the Federal Land Bank in Ionia. She was a member of the First United 
Methodist Church in Ionia. She married Chester C. Layle in 1972 in Ionia. 
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Chester “Chet” Layle; sister, Donna 
Higgins; nieces, Shirley Brown and Judy Higgins and nephew, Dennard Higgins.

Surviving are her nephew, Wayne Brown; niece, Judi Higgins and great-nieces 
and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007 at the 
First United Methodist Church, Ionia - with Pastor Larry Brown officiating. 
Interment will follow at Orleans Twp. Cemetery. The family will receive 
friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, 2007 at the Schrauben-
Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia. Contributions may be made to the 
First United Methodist Church in Betty's name.
