The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Tuesday, March 1, 1994

Mary R. Lazarus, 81, of Ionia died Sunday, February 27, 1994 at her 
residence.  She was born November 15, 1912 in Jackson, the daughter of George 
and Elizabeth (Roberts) Maddox Sr.  She attended Jackson Public Schools.  She 
married Clifford Lazarus on June 17, 1929 and later moved to Ionia in 1941.  
Mrs. Lazarus operated the Quo Vadis Dog Kennel, and the Iris Gardens, where 
she was known for her flowers.

She is survived by her husband, Clifford; two sons, Clifford Lazarus Jr. and 
Brandt Lazarus both of Ionia; one daughter, Patricia Blundy of Ionia; one 
brother, George Maddox Jr. of Lyons; 22 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren 
and one great-great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by one brother and 
three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at North Plains Community Church 
with the Rev. Robert Jourdan officiating.  Visitation will be Tuesday and 
Wednesday.  Burial will be in the spring at the Highland Park Cemetery in 
Ionia.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Ionia Area Hospice in care 
of the Hull Memorial Funeral Chapel in Muir.
