Joseph Allen Lazarus, age 45, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2005, at his Portland 
home, after a long but courageous battle with cancer.  He was surrounded by his 
family and good friend, Tim Goodrich, at the time of his death.

He was born in Ionia Feb. 19, 1960, the son of Brandt Lazarus and Janice 
(Brown) Livingston.  Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He graduated from 
Portland St. Patrick High School in 1978 and Lansing Community College in 
1993.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Portland Council #1509.

Joe as preceded in death by his step-father R. George Livingston; paternal 
grandparents Clifford and Mary Lazarus; and maternal grandfather Burton T. 
Brown.

Surviving are his mother Janice Livingston of Portland; father and step-mother, 
Brandt (Merry) Lazarus of Lake Linden; brother Richard (Connie) Lazarus of 
Portland; sisters, Dawn (Dave) Fletcher of Crystal, Mary (Kevin) Jayne of 
Carson City, Elizabeth (Edwin) Helms of Ionia, and Laura (Mark) Davis of 
Portland; step-sister Amy (Ron) Patrick of Lake Odessa; step-brothers, George 
(Karen) Livingston of Florida, Eric Livingston of Arkansas and Matt Livingston 
of Rochester; maternal grandmother, Marian Brown of Portland; several nieces 
and nephews who loved him very much, and several aunts, uncles and good friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 
Portland.  Rite of Committal followed at Highland Park Cemetery in Ionia.
