IONIA- Dr. Russell E. Leach, MD, 67, of West Lincoln avenue, died Friday 
evening at Kent Community hospital in Grand Rapids.

He was born in Brockton, Massachusetts November 10, 1910, the son of Herbert 
and Martha Stetson Leach. He graduated from high school in Brockton from Brown 
University at Providence. Rhode Island and Tufts Medical school in Boston, 
Massachusetts. 

He served his internship at Brockton city hospital and served as a medical 
doctor in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a lieutenant commander.

He married Francis Harrington in Chelsea, Massachusetts July 6, 1946. They made 
their home in Bedford, Massachusetts where he was on the staff of the veteran's 
administration hospital before coming to Ionia in 1963.

In Ionia, Dr. Leach was employed at the Ionia State hospital as a psychiatrist 
and the Michigan Reformatory. After retiring from state employment, he worked 
with the Ionia county Department of Mental Health. 

Dr. Leach was a member of SS Peter and Paul church, the Michigan Psychiatric 
Association, the American Psychiatric Association and the West Michigan 
Psychiatric Association. 

Survivors include his wife, one son, Russell, at home, three daughters, 
Catherine and Linda at home and Mrs. Raymond (Patricia) VanDervelde of 
Jacksonville, Florida and one grandson.

Funeral mass is Tuesday at 11 am from SS Peter and Paul church with Rev. Father 
Henry J. Dondzila officiating. 

Burial is in Mt. Olivet cemetery.

A memorial fund is established for the Ionia county unit of the American Cancer 
Society.

Parish rosary will be recited at the Leddick funeral home Monday at  7:30 pm.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home Tuesday, 7 to 
9 pm.
