Lake Odessa Wave - March 31, 1938


Esther Leak, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Leak, was born in Sebewa Township, 
Mich., August 27, 1867. She was united in marriage to William Barker in 1887. 
To this union one child was born, Mrs. Alta Braden.

Mrs. Barker spent many of the later years of her life as a practical nurse 
ministering to the needs of the people in this surrounding territory. She was 
always known for her patient and kindly spirit in this her chosen work.

She was a member of the local Rebekah lodge, and of the Central Methodist 
Episcopal Church.

Besides her daughter Mrs. Braden, she is survived by two grandsons, Dean and 
Dallas Braden; two sisters, Mrs. William Caswell of Lake Odessa and Mrs. Lee 
Day of Edmore, Mich.; two brothers, David and Edwin Leak, both of Lake Odessa.

She passed away Thursday morning, March 24, 1938, at the age of 70.

The funeral was held at the home of her daughter Saturday afternoon with the 
Rev. Leon W. Manning officiating. Interment was made in Sebewa Baptist Cemetery.
