Wave-Times, Friday, March 12, 1920 AGED CHRISTIAN PASSES TO REWARD A Pioneer of Sebewa Later a Resident of Lake Odessa, Quiet But Faithful. An honored and respected citizen of Lake Odessa, David Leak, Sr., known all over the village and vicinity, died last Saturday morning at his home on south 5th Ave. Since the death of his wife, about two years ago he was cared for by his children, principally Mrs. Wm. Caswell. He has been in poor health for a long time, but was tenderly cared for and everything done to make his last days cheerful and happy. He led a quiet Christian life and his faltering step will be missed by others than his children. The funeral was held Tuesday at the Sebewa Baptist church Rev. Early preaching and Mrs. Early sang. -OBITUARY- David Leak was born in Dorrington, Eng., June 17, 1831, and departed this life at his home in Lake Odessa March 6, 1920, aged 88 years, 8 mos. and 18 days. When he was 16 years old his parents came to America, leaving him with three brothers in England until they could earn the money to bring the four boys to them from across the sea. He was seventeen when he came to America, settling near Rochester, N.Y., May 6, 1855. He was united in marriage with Mary Ann Day. To this union ten children were born, three passing away in childhood. For more than sixty years he and his companion walked side by side sharing the burdens of making a home from the wilderness and then enjoying the fruit of their labors, when a little more than two years ago the wife quietly fell asleep, leaving him in his old age to lean upon his children and his God. Many years ago he gave his heart to God and united with the First Baptist church of Sebewa, where he was still a worthy member. Seven children are left to mourn his departure; Elwin, Mrs. Chas. Hill, Mrs. Etta Barker, Mrs. Caswell, Mrs. Day, David, Jr., Samuel, eighteen grand children and many friends and relatives. -CARD OF THANKS- We wish to thank our neighbors and friends for every kindness that was shown us during the long sickness and the death of our father, and to all who sent flowers. To the pastor for his words of comfort and to Mrs. Early and Mrs. Myers for the singing and playing. Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Leak, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hill, Mrs. Esther Barker, Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
