David Leak Closes Life of Activity. Leaves Widow, Son and daughter.Funeral Monday at M.E. Church. People of the village were surprised Saturday by learning of the death of their well-known townsman David Leak. He was stricken while mowing his lawn Friday evening and died the nest day at about eight o'clock after having suffered a stroke of apoplexy. He had not been so very well for some time but had kept about his business at his oil station. Mr. Leak had been a resident of Lake Odessa for 35 years. For 20 years he was employed at the Smith Bros, Velte elevator, then he was employed for twelve years at the Lake Odessa Oil Station, until he built a fine oil station, on the corner lot of his home where he died Saturday. Mr.Leak had served on the village council, on the Lake Odessa fire department and was ever alert to the welfare of the village. He was a member of Central Methodist Church during is residence in Lake Odessa. He sang in the choir for many years and also served as assistant superintendent of the Sunday school and ever exhibited a true Christian spirit. The funeral was largely attended Monday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev. Leon W.Manning, a recent former pastor, giving the sermon and Rev. Thies reading the scripture and offering prayer. Members of the village council were in attendance in a body. Business places were closed during the services. Burial was at Lakeside Cemetery. The pall bearers were his nephews; Morris, Zeno and Maynard Leak, Arlo Aves, Roy S.Braden and Forrest Day. Surviving are his widow Mrs Hortense Warner Leak, a son Keith of Pontiac, a daughter Mrs.Dorothy Costello of Dearborn, two grandchildren, a brother Ed Leak of Lake Odessa, two sisters Mrs. Caswell of Lake Odessa and Mrs.Emma Day of Edmore. Friends and relatives were present at the funeral from Detroit, Pontiac, Ionia, Freeport,Grand Rapids, Belding, Greenville, Lansing, Edmore, Clarkston and the surrounding community of Lake Odessa.
