The funeral was held from the Congregational church on Thursday forenoon, conducted by Rev. Wm. Skentlebury, and her remains interred in Lakeside cemetery. Nancy Katherine Bowles was born in Marshall county, Indiana, June 23, 1853. Her mother died when she was but a little girl of seven years, she being the second of five young children. But the family was kept together by the father, the little girl keeping house for him as soon as she grew old enough to do so. She remained with her father until on March 10th, 1886, when she was married to Thomas Leak. Mr.Leak had been married before, his first wife dying about three years previous to his second marriage. The Leaks and the Bowles were close neighbors and inseparable friends. The Miss Bowles who afterwards became Mrs.Leak, being a bosom companion of the first Mrs.Leak. Mrs.Bowles was one of five children all of whom are now dead but one. After her marriage with Mr.Leak, they moved to Sebewa where they lived for about four years, then moved to Rosina. Mr.Leak engaging in the general store business for about two years, then moved to his village about 13 years ago, where they have since lived. Mrs.Leak had been ailing for the past seven years, but was stricken with the illness that resulted in her death on the 6th of January last, since which time she has suffered greatly. Everything possible for medical skill to do was done for the suffering woman, but to no avail. All who knew the lady admired her for her patient Christian and motherly character. To Mr.Leak's children she has been as a mother, and they held her in the same esteem. Mrs. Leak first joined the Disciple Church, at Argos,Indiana, in 1868, and she never took a card from the church when moving to this state, but has deemed herself ever since a member there. Those present at the funeral from away were,Mr.and Mrs.Chas. Rowe, of Argos, Indiana; Mr.and Mrs. Rowe being a sister of Mrs.Leak; Mr.and Mrs. Wm. Bollman of Bourbon, Indiana, W.H.Leak of Edmore, Minnesota and John Bowice, a cousin, from Kalamazoo. In the last sad rites ver the remains of the deceased, Rev. Skentelbury paid her a pretty and tender tribute, as he had visited at the Leak home many times during the Lady's illness, and to his talks with the stricken lady, and learned to know her as a true Christian woman, with a strong faith in her God and all his works, and she passed away seemingly happy as in the thought that she would meet her loved ones again in that spirit world.
