All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Marilyn Ransom mlnransom@chartermi.net August 26, 2010, 5:25 pm The Lake Odessa Wave, February 17, 1927 Sally Brown Deemer Leak, the last one of the family of Charles and Lucy Connor Brown and the third member of this family to pass away in the past 16 months, was born in Marshall county, Indiana, March 20, 1841. Here she grew to womanhood and on October 27, 1859, was united in marriage to Eli W. Deemer. Here they braved the hardships of a new and unsettled country, and to this union were born eight children, two of whom survive her, C. B. Deemer of Peru, Indiana, and Mrs. Leon Gilson of Lake Odessa. In August 1893 Mr. Deemer was called from this world after an illness of long standing, from cancer. In August , 1906, she was married to Mr. Thomas Leak, of Lake Odessa, Mich. This happy union was also broken when Mr. Leak was called from this world in December 1914. From this time she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Leon Gilson, until death relieved her suffering on February 9, having lived to the age of 85 years, 10 months and 19 days. In her early womanhood she embraced Christianity and ever afterward has lived a true Christian life. Those left to mourn her death are a devoted son and daughter, nine grand- children and two great-grandchildren, besides numerous other relatives and friends, for to know her was to love her. The funeral was held Friday afternoon, Rev. A. E. Gay gave an excellent talk and burial was at Lake Side cemetery. Those from out of town to attend the funeral were C. B. Deemer of Peru, Ind.,; M. M. Logan of Crestline, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Yager and son of Lansing, Mrs. Geo. Deemer and Mr. and Mrs. Ward Smith from Nashville, Mrs. Daisy Hines, Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. G. Wm. Brummeler, Mr. and Mrs. John Haze, Mrs. John DeVos, Mrs. Henry Kronemeyer all of Grand Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Hand, Culver, Ind.; and Mrs. W. E. Cook South Bend, Ind.
