Ionia Daily Standard, 13 May 1904

Bert Leary, a young farmer of Boston township, hung himself in the barn, on 
Wednesday afternoon.  His mother was the first to discover the suspended body, 
and as she is old and feeble the shock is likely to hasten her death.  There is 
no special reason known why the young man should feel driven to suicide as the 
only relief from unsupportable woe, and mental aberration is surmised as the 
only probable solution, which is made to seem reasonable from the fact that his 
father died in an insane asylum.
